Will India Stop Buying Russian Oil?

Indian Finance Minister N.Sitharaman said on Friday that the government will continue to buy oil from Russia.

Sitaraman added, "I already think that world oil prices are falling. We are continuing our purchases from Russia

Earlier, data from commercial sources showed that India's imports of Russian oil rose in November to the highest level in 4 months, recording 1.6 million barrels per day, an increase of 3.1% from October, accounting for about 36% of the country's total oil imports last month.

Moscow has become India's largest oil supplier this year, with New Delhi attracted to discounts on Russian oil after Western companies ruled out purchases from Moscow after its war on Ukraine in February last year.

India, the world's third-largest oil importer and consumer, has traditionally relied on Middle Eastern producers to meet most of its oil needs and has rarely bought from Russia in the past due to high transportation costs.

The data showed that India's imports last month totaled about 4.5 million barrels per day, a decrease of 4.5% from October but an increase of 13% compared to the same month last year
