Sacked By Coach Of The Brazilian National Team
Brazil have sacked manager Fernando Diniz after a poor run that could see the Selecao in danger of missing the 2026 World Cup
The Selecao have let Diniz go, according to Globo, after the Fluminense boss oversaw a run of three straight losses in Conmebol World Cup qualifying. Sao Paolo coach Dorival Junior is the current favourite to step in to the now vacant role.
Brazil have struggled to nail down a permanent manager since Tite departed the post at the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup. Ramon Menezes lasted six months as a caretaker, before Diniz was brought in — nominally as a placeholder until the Selecao brought in a big hire for the 2024 Copa America. That manager was rumoured to be Carlo Ancelotti, but the Madrid boss signed an extension to keep him in the Spanish capital until 2026.
Despite a poor run at the helm, including the Selecao's first ever home World Cup qualifying loss, Diniz has repeatedly defended his team, such as following their 1-0 defeat to Argentina: "They didn't have any chances. We were much close to winning than them, and the result is really unfair."
The Selecao find themselves on the hunt for a new manager once again. And while Dorvial appears to be the favourite, Mourinho has hinted that he would be open to taking the job
